Teaching Philosophy

It is here I have seen how extended learning experiences in project-based learning encourage students to transfer knowledge between situations, further cementing their understanding. The best teaching, like allowing time for failure as a learning mode, may take longer in the short term, but creates stronger, more independent learners in the long term. As the Confucian philosopher Xunzi wrote,…

“Tell me and I forget.

Teach me and I remember.

Involve me and I learn.”

Successful teaching is not leading students to information, but rather guiding them through techniques for approaching information like experts. I am particularly interested in technology integration that enhances such student-centered learning. Completing my Master of Arts in Educational Technology has helped me pinpoint the optimal intersection of technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge to give students greater control over their learning.
